The visible particulate make any difference in these smokes is most commonly made up of carbon (soot). Other particulates could possibly be composed of drops of condensed tar, or sound particles of ash. The existence of metals within the gasoline yields particles of steel oxides. Particles of inorganic salts can also be fashioned, e.g. ammonium sul
